Writer's Workshops

Sandra FriendWith a decade's worth of experience as an author, five years of experience in public relations on a nonprofit's shoestring budget, and more than 25 years of knowledge garnered in the fields of computer science and information science, I'm amply qualified to provide seminars and workshops on topics of special interest to both new and well-established writers. I'm a faculty member for the Society of American Travel Writers Institute for Travel Writing and Photography, presenting information on marketing, websites, and New Media to participants at this annual intensive weekend seminar.

My workshop topics include:

  • Book Publishing
  • Guidebook Writing
  • Marketing in the Modern Age
  • Nonfiction Book Proposals
  • New Media for Writers
  • Wowing 'Em on the Web

Contact me to discuss your needs and I'll work with you to tailor my expertise and length of presentation to your audience. See the Appearances section for my upcoming seminars, workshops, school visits, and talks about hiking. I have presented writing and marketing workshops for both writers' groups and nonprofit organizations.

Some recent comments on my talks:

"Thanks for an excellent Professional Development session at Orlando. I've been to quite a few presentations on similar topics, but not any as well organized and as new user friendly as yours. Too often the presenter assumes the audience knows almost as much and thus leaves ots of people in the vapor trail or assumes they know nothing and never gets beyond blogging. I especially preciated your thoroughness, preparation and willingness to share resources." - Gary Knowles, Midwest Travel Writers Association, November 2008

"I want to thank you for presenting the seminar on Book Publishing at the recent Florida Outdoor Writers Conference. You did a fine job, taking a large, complex subject and giving a complete and thorough overview of it." - John Kumiski, Chairman of the Board, Florida Outdoor Writers Association, September 2008

"Thank you for your help with FOWA's Craft Improvement Day at the Punta Gorda Conference...your insights into guidebooks were certainly to-the-point." - Tommy Thompson, Executive Director, Florida Outdoor Writers Association ,September 2008
