Thanks to receiving a much higher dosage of a medication than my body could tolerate, I spent several days this week with a haze in my eyes, unable to clearly focus on anything within an arm’s length of me — including words. For a writer and avid reader, this was a frightening glimpse into what the reality of loss of vision is like. Ironically, I had a thorough checkover by an opthamologist just a week ago and was proclaimed perfectly healthy with 20/20 vision. And now what? As I wrote these words in my journal on Monday, all I saw was a blur and it made me nauseous trying to focus. Yet I could make out the shapes of birds, trees, passing cars, all just fine. Today, my vision is mostly normal again. As I’m in the thick of several writing projects, that’s a relief after being sidelined, especially after spending most of the weekend knocked out.
