The Beauty of Big Cypress

The Beauty of Big Cypress

Four days of walking in shin-to-waist deep water: now that’s tiring! But I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Rob and I have been volunteering at the annual Muck About held at Clyde Butcher’s Labor Day weekend Open House in the Big Cypress Swamp. It’s where we met three years ago, and where we restated our vows among friends while we sunk into the swamp muck out in the Pond. It’s a tradition now, filled with friends and fun and the wonder of the swamp. For newbies: it’s the best way to get your feet wet, literally and metaphorically, on a swamp walk.

A reporter from the Miami Herald came out yesterday and took a walk on the pink trail with Lisa Andrews, one of our crackerjack guides and lucky lady who works in Big Cypress all the time. It’s a front page link off the Miami Herald website right now, so check it out! It amazes me that every time I walk out there, whether I’m leading or following, I always see something new. Here’s a “hooty hoo” to the crew and see you all next year!
