Enough rain yet?
A drive through the horse farms surrounding my home convinced me that Ocala has had more than it’s fair share of El Nino weather.
Life’s Little Luxuries
I always appreciate when a hotel offers up good stuff in their toiletries, especially when it has a Florida connection or is ecofriendly. A little pampering makes all the difference to a weary traveler. These were at the Amelia Hotel at the Beach In Fetnandina Beach.
Heaven Scent
If heaven is on earth, it is cloaked with the mysterious and pure scent of camellias in spring. A stroll through the ancient camellias of Magnolia Gardens wrapped us in transformative and tranquil aromas, where Mom and I marveled at the variety of color and form of these historic plants, draped over pathways in the tradition of a romantic garden. The camellia’s scent is fleeting; experience it now here in Charleston!
Finding Grace
Visiting Charleston’s gardens with Mom this week is both a bonding experience and a way to work through grief and memories of the past when all members of our family were with us visiting these same locales in the early 70s. Yesterday I found the four Graces in a garden, and they brought back a flood of memories. It is good we are here bonding and revisiting our past.
Auto Maintenance for Writers
There is a Zen-like quality to the time spent waiting for your mechanic to work on your car. If it’s a short enough job, say a few hours, it’s an ideal time to nourish creativity. I use a shop where they have no tv in the waiting room, which is to me, ideal. Bring a notebook and sketch out article ideas. Write a scene for your novel. Browse the magazines to scope out markets. Do character studies of the people wandering through. Listen to conversations and take notes. It’s ideal downtime to stretch the mind.
