The Mangrove

Feb 1, 2010   //   by Sandra Friend   //   Blog, Florida, Photography, United States  //  No Comments

At the very end of the Main Park Road in Everglades National Park, I captured this lone mangrove just offshore from the wrack line along Florida Bay. It’s old enough to have witnessed the waves of change across Flamingo, most recently the waves from Hurricane Wilma and Hurricane Katrina so deeply damaging the beloved Flamingo Lodge and cabins that they’ve since been wiped off the face of the earth. The mangrove, however, digs its roots in deep and still stands.
